into shades of twilight...

.

(polska wersja poniżej)

This yournal entry is for all those who see my images as much too dark... (if you see my images as blackness with "something" in it... - then this isn't what I intend)
Here are points that should help You make my images viewable similarly to how I see them:

1. first of all: watch by night and without light or with small lamp (most important is that light shouldn’t cast on monitor)... if you watch in daylight – darken room (cause if you don’t – you will probably see nothing...)

2. please – calibrate your monitor*. It will take you maybe 1 minute only (adjusting brightness and contrast to right level) - here you can calibrate your monitor [link] (if this link doesn’t work – then just type in google: monitor calibration)

(* Important: If you watch images at night then also calibrate monitor at night. Cause if you will calibrate during day, and watch at night - images will look too light, and without black elements)

note: i see most of my b&w works as shades of dark grey with darkness. (for tech-freaks it would be: "first half of histogram")

3. 1 (or more) minutes of eyes accomodation (to screen and darkness) – and You see much, much more...

4. if You use lcd (it is much, much worst for this kind of images) – then watch with right angle (on some lcd's lighter parts are seeable only when you look a little from above)

5. finally: darkness, low contrast, and lack of lights (on most of my works) are my style. enjoy...

images made on Crt monitor (Fujitsu siemens 21P3), on 1024x768 resolution.

(edit) note: since some time i prepare all my works for light-grey backrgound, not black as before (axactly - since my work "Nosferaru" submitted on February 8, 2007)

To powinno pomóc:

enjoy...

I abolutely got what you mean. I have one deviation that some claim to be beautiful and they compliment the facial expression, other say they can't see anything and can't see the face and it is just terrible. Bad monitor calibration...it is a b*tch.

100% agree with you, monitor calibration is a must, and you should always let your eyes adapt to what you're watching, that is, it takes some time ;)

Thank you, these remarks were needed for all of us!! ;)

that's the point! dark deviations become my style and if after hours of working at some deviation first messages that you receive are like "it is much too dark" then :sadangel: and :steaming:

thank you very much for this comment

^_^ way to be, man! I hate it when people complain about composition- especially when you are going for a particular style!

yes - me too... as if images were only for discussing about form.... important is what image mean and what you feel when you look..

i was in an art guild several years back, and had to hear the same thing about my oils again and again. it's a bitch having to defend it to the well-meaning critics... that it's dark on purpose, that i wanted people to have to truly LOOK to see what was inside, like staring into the night to make out the objects. of course, i'd rather hear that than the worst "compliment" of all... very nice picture! something so mundane that the viewer can glance at it, smile, and move on. ugh!

exactly! "nice picture but a little too dark" (what mean: i saw 15% of it - so oh - nice...)... maybe i should write on each deviation list of comments that i don't desire.... (no - i will not do that..)
dark artist are damn... in many ways. why here are only white backgrounds? I must find place where i will propose to add possibility to choose black bacground when you opening an deviation... (and it is strange that it isn't already on DA...)

:iconionwill:
no... - i checked it on suggestions forum. They reject idea of background personal customizations.... :(
